Anti's... Who, What, and How They Are

Just over a year ago, this blog posted the personal story of Amy, who went from anti-racing to being pro-racing. That post can be found HERE.

There were several replies to her post, some of which were not published due to their nastiness and also because the poster would not sign their name or even a pseudonym.  They have so much courage in their convictions that they chose to hide behind the name - ANONYMOUS.  In general, not all the time, most of those ANONYMOUS posts are deleted.  However, one in particular I retained and I'm going to share it with you now.

What kind of person is so nasty that they unload on a person who shares a tragic story, Elaine, and attempts to belittle & demean another person, Amy, with whom they disagree about greyhound racing?  The only people this nasty are animal rights & anti-racing zealots.

In comment sections worldwide, I have seen these terrorists wish for the deaths of others, curse people & their children, and, in some cases as with groups like Stop Huntington Animal Cruelty (SHAC), firebomb houses among other nasty forms of terror.  For instance, The Daily Mail cites as examples of SHAC activism sending letters to the neighbors of a man who did business with Huntington Life Sciences (HLS), warning parents to keep their children away from him, falsely claiming that he had raped the letter writer when she was a child. A woman in her 60s, who worked for a company targeted by SHAC, had every window in her house smashed during the night and found an effigy hanging outside her home, which read "R.I.P. Mary, Animal Abusing Bitch".[1]

The SHAC website, which is no longer in existence, featured Animal Liberation Front (ALF) news.  Robin Webb, spokesman for the ALF in the UK, attended and addressed SHAC conferences in the United States.[2] A posting on the website Bite Back (a Malaysia-registered website and magazine that promotes the cause of the animal liberation movement, and specifically the ALF on 7 Sept 2005 claimed the ALF had carried out an attack on the home of Paul Blackburn, corporate controller of GlaxoSmithKline (GSK), in Buckinghamshire, because GSK is a customer of HLS. The detonated device contained two liters of fuel and four pounds of explosives on the doorstep of Blackburn's home. Blackburn's wife & child were home at the time. In 2006 the ALF warned that it was targeting HLS suppliers, and that year firebombed a car belonging to the finance director of Canaccord Capital, a brokerage firm. Members of SHAC said the company had acted as brokers for Phytopharm, which had used HLS for contract testing.[3] Please note that Don Currie was

Now, what does this have to do with Grey2K?  Let's not forget that Christine Dorchak has ties to PeTA & ALF.  Thank goodness I got the screen shot below as it's my understanding that when Ms. Dorchak discovered its existence, she sent a legal letter to them requesting they remove her entry.  I was taught, one is judged by the company they keep. I can see why she would want to deny any connection to Killer Newkirk at PeTA and the domestic terrorists at ALF.

So, who are some of those on the list pictured?

Adam Durand, film maker and president of the group Compassionate Consumers. Also associated with the former group, Animal Rights International.  Mr. Durand entered Wegman's egg farm without permission, taking 11 hens believed to be sick or dying and later released a movie titled “Wegmans Cruelty.”  Convicted and sentenced to jail time and a fine.

Alex Pacheco: Co-founder & Chairman of PeTA, Founder of 600 Million Stray Dogs Need You and on the advisory board of Sea Shepherd.  Also co-founder of Adopt-A-Pet.com and vice president of the New England Anti-Vivisection Society. Subpoenaed in connection with ALF activities.

Bruce Friedrich: PeTA, Farm Sanctuary. Jailed several times for different offenses, the former anti-war protestor believes that hunters should be viewed "with the same revulsion we presently reserve for Nazi doctors and slave traders.” Friedrich has denounced teenage animal-rights activists who dare to question the appropriateness of violent protest and advocates FOR violent protest.
"If we really believe that animals have the same right to be free from pain and suffering at our hands, then, of course we’re going to be, as a movement, blowing things up and smashing windows … I think it’s a great way to bring about animal liberation … I think it would be great if all of the fast-food outlets, slaughterhouses, these laboratories, and the banks that fund them exploded tomorrow. I think it’s perfectly appropriate for people to take bricks and toss them through the windows … Hallelujah to the people who are willing to do it." [click here to listen] [4]
Camille Hankins: one of the directors of the North American Animal Liberation Press Office. She is also a supporter of SHAC and the Animal Liberation Front. Another group that she is a member of is the NY Animal Rights Activists. She is a convicted animal abuser.

She is nothing but a supporter of Terrorism. What is even more hypocritical is her history with animals.

The list goes on & on with pretty much all of them showing hatred & disdain for people and a tendency towards violence.

If we are truly judged by the company we keep, someone really needs to start judging the Grey2K president, Christine Dorchak by her friends & associates.  We are amazed she continues to fly under the radar.

Follow the Money....

"Follow the money"....  It's a phrase we're hearing more & more in today's society as more & more people are being duped by scams, graft, and fraud. The first time I remember hearing it was in the 1976 movie, All the President's Men, and it was said in a conversation between "Deep Throat" and Bob Woodward with regards to the Watergate scandal. It seems that this particular phrase has ALWAYS been associated, since then, with corruption.  It serves as a good reminder that if money is involved, chances are if you "follow the money trail" it will lead you, like the trail of bread crumbs in Hansel & Gretel,  to the root source, the motivation behind an action, and a look at who stood to profit.

For those who are thinking about donating to Grey2K USA and for those who donated already to that lobbying group, there are links in this post that you really should examine. Grey2K touts itself as helping racing greyhounds when, in fact, it appears by these financial reports that they are only helping themselves.

The first link it to a spread sheet that shows the donation dollars breakdown in a clear & easy format.

G2K Financial Summary-Detail REV2014.pdf

This chart and the pie chart below show that over an 8 year time period, 2004 - 2012, Grey2K USA took in more than $3.4 MILLION dollars!  That's a lot of money that would have been much better sent to a greyhound adoption group of your choice or some real charity. Remember, Grey2K is not a charity, it is a LOBBYING group.

G2K Financial Pie Chart 2004-2012.pdf

So, how much of that $3.4 MIILLION dollars actually went to helping dogs?  Less than 2%.  Yes, I did not stutter...  ONLY $43,291 (1.3%) went to actually helping retired racing greyhounds.  That is pathetic!

If you "follow the money", you will see that the greatest bulk of those hard earned dollars, nearly 28%, was spent on the salaries of Christine Dorchak & Carey Theil.  Dorchak & Theil averaged more than $100,000 in salary on a yearly basis, while donations to the dogs averaged $481 during the same time period.  So much for helping the dogs.  Looks to me like they are only helping themselves and that's not including the trips they took to some pretty far corners of the globe: Ireland, England, Macau...  Must be nice.

The Grey2K scam is on a par with that of the Humane Society of the US (HSUS). High  executive salaries, little in actual help for the animals, and a lot of misleading propaganda.

Marx and Goebbels would be proud.

The Animal Liberation Front & Grey2K

The Animal Liberation Front, ALF, is an animal rights organization touted as a domestic terrorist group by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).  In testimony given before the House Resources Committee, James Jarboe the Domestic Terrorism Section Chief stated,
"During the past several years, special interest extremism, as characterized by the Animal Liberation Front (ALF) and the Earth Liberation Front (ELF), has emerged as a serious terrorist threat. Generally, extremist groups engage in much activity that is protected by constitutional guarantees of free speech and assembly. Law enforcement becomes involved when the volatile talk of these groups transgresses into unlawful action. The FBI estimates that the ALF/ELF have committed more than 600 criminal acts in the United States since 1996, resulting in damages in excess of 43 million dollars."
That's a lot of criminal activity and a lot of damages.  Mr. Jarboe continues on, saying,
"These groups occupy the extreme fringes of animal rights, pro-life, environmental, anti-nuclear, and other movements. Some special interest extremists -- most notably within the animal rights and environmental movements -- have turned increasingly toward vandalism and terrorist activity in attempts to further their causes."
As bad as these "activists" are in the United States, they are worse in Europe and in the United Kingdom. They are heavily involved in trying to ban all hunting activities, all animal research, all farming....  everything and anything to do with animals.  Yesterday, 24 March, the Daily Mail published an article indicating the possibility that a hound was beaten to death by ALF members, who then dumped the poor animal next to a car, which had been vandalized, on the driveway of the Ross Harriers  huntmaster, Lee Peters. This was NOT a hunting dog, but a pet. The reason the police suspect ALF is because the letters ALF were scratched into the vehicles where the dog was found dead on the drive.

It is thought that this act is connected with the fact that a badger cull is to happen in the same area as where the Ross Harriers Hunt are located. Threats by the AR's have been made against those who support the cull.

Now then, what does this have to do with Grey2K?  Well, Christine Dorchak of Grey2K was a keynote speaker at an ALF conference.

That should say it all....

Yours in greyhounds, not terrorism....

Where Is The Outrage?

Financial breakdown of Grey2K USA's finances: donations, grants, contributions, salaries, etc.

I am truly bewildered by the devotees of Grey2K USA.  Perhaps repeated recitations by their beloved leader proclaiming her purported miraculous resurrection from the dead and subsequent realization of her true vocation to help save greyhounds has so awed these disciples that they are blind to the truth. Even when the truth smacks them upside the head, they refuse to accept or even acknowledge it. Why is it so much easier to believe that an outdated photograph or graphic video clip implying nefarious abuse represents the norm in greyhound racing today?  How is it that hundreds of current images, videos and testimonials posted daily, showing the loving care bestowed upon these canine athletes, are dismissed as hogwash?  Yet every day, these self-righteous Branch Dorchakians, most of whom have no direct experience with greyhound farms or racing, continue to empty their wallets believing they are somehow helping a worthy cause. But, do these SHEEPLE really know where their hard earned dollars are being spent?

Recently compiled data gives credence to what has been long suspected regarding Grey2K's financial activities. While it has been suggested that they do not give a dime to help greyhound adoption, it appears that they have indeed contributed a portion of their ill gotten gains over the years - an infinitesimal portion. Unfortunately, there is no information on the reports regarding the recipients of these contributions - maybe their cohorts at PeTA or HSUS?

For the six year period, 2006 to 2011, Grey2K USA's publicly available IRS Forms 990 reveal revenue from donations of approximately $2,220,l00.  Over this same period, expenses exceeded $2,201,000. What, pray tell, did they spend this money on? Here's the breakdown.

$599,402 (27.2%) for Salaries and Payroll Related Expenses (primarily Dorchak & Theil)

$585,866 (26.6%) for Lobbying

$379,652 (17.2%) for Printing & Postage

Another 27.6% of the total was allocated to office related expenses, advertising and marketing, insurance, travel, and professional fees for service.

Where are the contributions, you ask? Over this SIX YEAR period, reported contributions were $31,451- an average of $5,242 per year or......  a whopping 1.4%!

Over TWO MILLION DOLLARS was collected and a miserly 1.4% given in contributions. This is helping to save greyhounds HOW? While all volunteer adoption groups survive on cookie jar donations...

HOW many greyhounds slated for adoption could have been spayed or neutered, had a dental or had a blood test with $2 MILLION?

HOW many injured greyhound legs could have been repaired with $2 MILLION?

HOW many hauls to adoption groups could have been made with $2 MILLION?

HOW many greyhounds could have been temporarily housed, fed, and cared for in adoption kennels while waiting for available homes with $2 MILLION?

HOW many greyhounds, deplorably abused and abandoned by derelict adopters, and taken back with open arms by adoption groups could have been rehabilitated with $2 MILLION?

The list is endless. I'm not one to tell people how to spend their money, but if I were a Grey2K donor, I WOULD BE OUTRAGED!

Support, Evaluate & Ensure

In this post, we shall examine the effectiveness of the Grey2K BOD & Executive Members in several more points which have been previously mentioned.

Item #3 - A non-profit Board of Directors needs to "Support and evaluate the chief executive. The board should ensure that the chief executive has the moral and professional support he or she needs to further the goals of the organization."

Well, the Grey2K USA Board of Directors does support the leadership, the husband & wife team of Theil & Dorchak. I'm guessing that they better support them or be kicked out of their honorary positions! There is every indication that Christine Dorchak holds the Sword of Damocles over her Board of Directors. Either that or she's maintaining a vise like grip on their cojones.

Behind Bars....
As to whether the BOD actually evaluates the leadership of Dorchak & Theil...  it's doubtful...  If a good board was to evaluate the leadership, I'm wondering what they would say about the organization's President doing jail time back in her PeTA days... Yes...  I did not stutter... Christine Dorchak did jail time.

By now, people should know that Christine Dorchak was one of the PeTA protesters at the New England Aquarium, protesting the fact that the Aquarium had fish on their menu.  However, I'm guessing most people do NOT know that Dorchak was arrested for protesting at the Macy's at Downtown Crossing in Boston.

Here's part of an article from 1998 about an arrest that was only 4 years after a certain individual's battle back from the brink of death and a 2 year struggle to regain health.

Five fur protesters in chains arrested at Macy's
Boston Globe, City Edition - Boston, Mass.
Author: Daniel Vasquez, Globe Staff
Date: Dec 21, 1998

"Every Sunday, a small group of protesters exercise their First Amendment rights and gather in front of Macy's at Downtown Crossing. Their mission: to dissuade shoppers from buying mink coats and fox hides. But yesterday, members of the group allegedly lay down and blocked the store's doors, and five protesters were arrested... Steven William Baer, of Northborough, Heather Joy Lacapria and Chris Michael Devoncourt, both of East Boston, and Christine Anne Dorchak and Sandi Beth Okun, both of Boston, were charged with blocking a public entrance and disturbing the peace, according to police..."

Then, there is item #4...  The non-profit Board of Directors is supposed to "Ensure effective planning. Boards must actively participate in an overall planning process and assist in implementing and monitoring the plan's goals."

Monitor, and strengthen programs and services. The board's responsibility is to determine which programs are consistent with the organization's mission and monitor their effectiveness.

Let's revisit the mission statement of Grey2K, which was somewhat recently changed.
"GREY2K USA is the largest greyhound protection organization in the United States. As a non-profit 501(c)4 organization, we work to pass stronger greyhound protection laws and to end the cruelty of dog racing on both national and international levels. We also promote the rescue, rehoming and adoption of greyhounds across the globe."
So now, they pay lip service to adoption. Yep... that's the section that has been somewhat recently added, :promote the rescue, rehoming and adoption of greyhounds..."  If their behavior in Massachusetts was any such example of "rescue, rehome, and adoption of greyhounds", they are in desperate need of education! Their plan in MA was not a good example of "effective planning".  In fact, it was the worst planning possible.

According to the Patriot Ledger, it was estimated that nearly 1,000 greyhounds were in need of a place to go when the MA ban on wagering took effect. (Contrary to what is stated by Grey2K, it is still LEGAL to race in Massachusetts.  The end result of the Question 3 ballot measure was to ban WAGERING, not dog racing.) Grey2K did not help those displaced dogs.  It was only through the efforts of the late greyhound advocate, Linda Jensen, that all the dogs found places to go. Linda was devoted to the care and welfare of retired Greyhounds and was recognized as the 2010 Greyhound Adoption person of the year by the American Greyhound Council. She was the driving force behind Racing Owners Assisting Racers, Inc. (ROAR) which served as a safety net to assure that every dog gets into a retirement (pet) home.  Linda Jensen was one of those vile & evil greyhound racing folks.  She had been involved in greyhound racing for 25 years or so at the time of her unexpected passing.

Even staunch Grey2K supporters like Louise Coleman, have questioned the planning behind the MA effort. In an article in the Revere Journal, Coleman said that the measure might not have had a lot of foresight – especially when it came to providing for the consequences of removing a long-time industry from the state.
“The whole question seemed to me to be, when the referendum was passed, it wasn’t brought to peoples’ attention that just because you stop racing doesn’t mean you don’t have more dogs,” she said. “There was no provision for the care of the dogs that are left afterward…In the abstract, people think there’s no more racing, but in reality there’s all these dogs and whose going to take care of them? It’s especially hard for us.”
Coleman also has concerns about the fate of the breed,
“The adoption movement has created a real demand for these dogs and people want them. The worst-case scenario is that the puppy mills would take them over. Maybe it’s just me, but it doesn’t seem like there’s a lot of planning in this process.
With all of this lack of planning, it does not seem like the Grey2K Board of Directors is doing its job - ensuring effective planning.

Anyway, with regard to the Grey2K efforts on rehoming hounds.  It sounds like a conflict of interest to me...end dog racing, and you essentially end retired greyhound adoption. You hand the breed over to AKC hobby breeders and, perhaps, to large scale commercial breeders. It is more of the Grey2K's and PeTA's advocacy by extinction as espoused by Dorchak's mentor - Ingrid Newkirk. Such compassion.

Hmmm....  I just thought of something...  I wonder if Grey2K's opposition to crating dogs ("confined to cages for 20+ hours a day") is a direct result of Ms. Dorchak's jail time?

Anthropomorphism at its finest?

A Vendetta Reaches Its Climax

An article by Dennis McKeon putting truth to the Grey2K USA vendetta against Rory Goree.
by Dennis McKeon

I confess. I actually felt sorry for Christine Dorchak. Christine is the chief cook and bottle washer at the Somerville Massachusetts Kool-Aid and Arsenic Emporium, also known as Grey2k. She suffered and survived a near fatal accident as a young woman, and personally, I find nothing gratifying about that.

Grey2k has worked relentlessly, for over a decade, to stereotype greyhound racing professionals as exploiters, abusers and murderers of racing greyhounds. They are very good at what they do. What they did, in the case of Massachusetts, is to propagandize skillfully enough to have outlawed state-sanctioned, pari-mutuel wagering on greyhound races, essentially shutting down a network of businesses, and disenfranchising hundreds of families who relied on racing and the racetracks for their livelihoods. With that a fait accompli, when it came time to find homes for all the greyhounds who suddenly had nowhere to go, Grey2k simply scratched gravel, and essentially told the greyhounds, “see ya, wouldn’t wanna be ya”.

Noted greyhound adoption advocate and one of the founders of The Greyhound Project, Joan Belle Isle, had something to say about it. When asked on a message board, whether Grey2k and specifically, Christine Dorchak, had stuck around to help in re-homing the greyhounds who found themselves, overnight, in need of a place to go, as Grey2k had assured the voting public they would, Ms. Belle Isle responded:

"With respect to Raynham, the answer to your question is NO. But that didn't stop her from taking the credit for the work of the dogmen and adoption volunteers, led by Linda Jensen, that got every dog with no other place to go into an adoption program."

Grey2k is a registered non-profit organization, and they rely on public donations to fund their slash-and-burn brand of political activism. They claim that they “help the greyhounds”, but they have never been, nor are they now an adoption group or a hands on provider of greyhound welfare services. Grey2k is a political action group with strong ties to an anti-gambling activist organization called Stop Predatory Gambling.

A long-running vendetta waged by anti-racing activists to personally destroy a member of the Arizona Racing Commission, one Rory Goree, has currently taken center stage in the Grey2k Travelling Kabuki Theatre.

Goree recently made some flippant and insensitive remarks about Christine Dorchak’s aforementioned unfortunate accident, when as a young woman, she was struck by a Boston rail trolley. She suffered very serious injury, and worked her way through what one can only imagine must have been extremely grueling and trying rehabilitation. Mr. Goree’s comments were ill-advised and crass, and I can’t blame Carey Theil, Ms. Dorchak’s husband and cohort at Grey2k, for taking exception to them, as much as I loathe the unethical and destructive antics of Grey2k.

Rory Goree, prior to his appointment as a member of the Arizona Racing Commission, had worked for 17 years in greyhound adoption. He, like Grey2k, was very good at what he did. Good enough to have been made President of Greyhound Pets of America, the largest greyhound adoption network in the world. Under Goree’s stewardship, unprecedented realms of cooperation between racing and adoption were realized. Thousands of greyhounds were given a chance to find adoptive homes, so much so that they have become a virtual phenomenon in the canine world. Thanks in no small part to Rory Goree, adoption has become the final chapter in nearly every racing greyhound’s career. The racing greyhound has never---ever---had a better or more accomplished advocate than Rory Goree.

Rather than working to demonize racing professionals, to abolish racing, and to therefore turn the racing greyhound into a fringe breed, Goree reached out to racing and the powers that be, and treated them like responsible owners and breeders. He raised the bar and challenged them to make that jump. He took away most excuses that racing might make about being unable to work with an antagonistic adoption community, by making peace among various factions within the racing and adoption communities. The greyhounds all won.

Ironically, this worked against the slash-and-burn activists at Grey2k, whose donations rise and fall, proportionally, according to the amount of friction and enmity that exists between adoption and racing, among other forms of discord and controversy.

This is evidenced by the letter Grey2k sent out to its supporters and enablers during Goree’s tenure as GPA President, which read:

"Greyhound Pets of America is an arm of the racing industry and representatives of the group come out to testify against our bills in every state. Please, please refrain from interacting with them and/or including them in your Yahoo group discussions and announcements."

Now there’s some real advocacy for you. Refrain from interacting with the largest network of greyhound adoption groups in the world. Why on earth, one might ask? Well, dear reader, the answer is quite simple--because GPA and Rory Goree are actually succeeding in getting racing to cooperate with adoption, and vice versa, and our pockets aren’t exactly jingling as a result.

So that’s how one “helps the greyhounds”—we simply thrill in awe at such soul-purifying compassion.

Fortuitously, for Grey2k, a latent psychopath named Ronnie Williams burst a gasket, and was found to have starved and abandoned 37 greyhounds in a Florida kennel. This afforded them the opportunity to formulate and promote the deliberate “Ronnie Williams-ing” of each and every person who had ever been associated with greyhounds in racing, and must have set the Grey2k cash registers to singing Jingle Bells until the one-horse open sleigh wore out its runner blades.

Grey2k continued to “help the greyhounds” by tarring and feathering the entire greyhound racing working class with the reprehensible and truly deranged misdeeds of Williams, while feathering its own nest with donations from an ever gullible public.

Goree had previously helped facilitate the release of 126 greyhounds who had been sent to Juarez, Mexico to race. They were allowed to go to Juarez under an agreement stating that when the season ended, they would be returned to the US. When that guarantee proved to be a bit less than ironclad, GPA group leaders and Goree made sure the agreement was lived up to, at their own personal expense, rescuing the dogs in question.

Ever laying in wait for a bonanza like the one Ronnie Williams would soon gift to them, Grey2k apparently couldn’t be bothered to help, or even offer moral support.

So as payback for all his unprecedented work in adoption, Goree, whose appointment to the Racing Commission was applauded by real greyhound welfare providers as an unprecedented positive step for greyhound protection and adoption, now finds himself on tenterhooks of his own making. For statements that are unworthy of him or his brilliant career as a true greyhound benefactor—and despite Grey2k’s own history of promoting hurtful, negative stereotypes of racing professionals, of adoption people who cooperate with them, and of willful and ruthless job destruction.

Grey2k is now waging a campaign to have one of the great advocates and facilitators of greyhound adoption removed from the Arizona Racing Commission, because of his remarks concerning the devastating accident that befell Christine Dorchak. I can’t see how that is going to “help the greyhounds” one little bit, but I can understand a husband’s indignation. Goree’s peace-making and adoption triumphs, additionally, were and still are an anathema to the Grey2k agenda and pocketbook.

Nevertheless, for a moment there, I felt that I could actually relate to Carey and Christine on a basic, human level. Then, all at once, in my very own Saint Paul moment, suddenly I saw the clouds part and the lightning flash.

Reverting to form, Grey2k has now begun---shamelessly and with an audacity of which only the truly depraved are capable---are you ready for this?… the “Rory Truth Fund”.

No-they-di-int…

Oh yes they did!!

Nothing soothes hurt feelings like cold, hard cash.

Copyright, 2012

More Copyright Infringement & Mental Illness

Copyright infringement by Grey2K USA. More theft! The Massachusetts Bar needs to investigate Christine Dorchak and disbar her if appropriate. She is an attorney engaging in hate crimes & theft. Take away her license to practice law!
It seems that it never ends...  Today, Grey2K lifted pictures off of a Twitter account... Pictures they have no right to post and share as they did not get the photographer's permission...

That is COPYRIGHT INFRINGEMENT!

It is THEFT! It is STEALING!

You would think that an attorney, which is what Christine Dorchak claims to be, would know that it is ILLEGAL to take and use photographs without the photographers' permission!

I really have to wonder what the Massachusetts Bar thinks about one of its members participating in illegal activities...  But, then again, we are talking Massachusetts....  Home to some rather crooked politicians throughout the years.

The photographs which they are illegally using for their purposes belong to a racing owner & breeder, Buddy Scitern. These photos have already been "shared" more than 70 times without having permission from the photo's owner: Buddy Scitern.  Buddy runs a tight ship at his place, which is clean & orderly.  All of his dogs receive the best in care.  I've been to his place and it is one where I'd send any dog to live. Heck, I'd not mind living there!

These people, and I use that term loosely, have absolutely no morals...  no sense of right and wrong... to them, the ends do justify the means, even if those means are illegal and immoral!  And they have a tax exemption?

Copyright Infringment is THEFT!  It is STEALING!

At least, at this time, they are not calling for Buddy Scitern to die, as they are Rory Goree.  Even so, he has been called by one, Maria Angulo,  a "heartless bastard" while another, Brenda Fosella, is calling him an "abuser" because his dogs in training are kept in such a spotless kennel in appropriately sized crates.  They are idiots!

Earlier today, I received a suggestion to look at a webpage, Animal Rights: The Abolitionist Approach. After reading that page, there is no way you will ever convince me that the AR's do not suffer from some form of mental illness.  Really...  I mean that... these people are sick...  very sick.  They need to be incarcerated for their own good as well as for the safety of those around them.  - especially for the sake & safety of animals.

Read this and let me know if I'm wrong...
We cannot justify such an institution, even if it looked very different from the situation that now exists. My partner and I live with five rescued dogs, including dogs who had health problems when we adopted them. We love them very much and try very hard to provide them the best of care and treatment. (And before anyone asks, all seven of us are vegans!) You would probably not find two people on the planet who enjoy living with dogs more than we do.

But if there were two dogs left in the universe and it were up to us as to whether they were allowed to breed so that we could continue to live with dogs, and even if we could guarantee that all dogs would have homes as loving as the one that we provide, we would not hesitate for a second to bring the whole institution of “pet” ownership to an end.
There you have it folks! Someone that is telling the world what the true goal of the AR's is... the extinction of pets. They are willing to allow animals to become extinct because they believe that domestic animals do not belong in this world.
We regard the dogs who live with us as refugees of sorts, and although we enjoy caring for them, it is clear that humans have no business continuing to bring these creatures into a world in which they simply do not fit.
REMEMBER ----

CHRISTINE DORCHAK IS A CARD CARRYING MEMBER OF PETA. THIS IS WHAT SHE BELIEVES. THIS IS WHAT SHE WANTS TO ACCOMPLISH - A WORLD WITHOUT DOGS... A WORLD WITHOUT GREYHOUNDS... AND, A WORLD WITHOUT GAMBLING.

Florida Political Candidates... Tied to AR Groups

Grey2K Supported Candidates in Florida

This fall, several anti-greyhound candidates will appear on the ballot in Florida. These candidates will be running for either the Florida State House or Florida State Senate. We need your help in defeating them as they have been endorsed by the rabid animal rights group, Grey2K USA.  We and the greyhounds need your help.

For those who do not know, Grey2K USA is affiliated with the Animal Liberation Front (ALF), Humane Society of the US (HSUS), and also PeTA.  The President of Grey2K, Christine Dorchak, participated in PeTA protests at the New England Aquarium and she was a keynote speaker at an ALF event.

Dorchak's mentor, Ingrid Newkirk, stated at a press conference following the 2005 arrest of two employees, Hinkle & Cook, in North Carolina"PETA believes euthanasia is the kindest gift to a dog or cat..." Newkirk has personally stated that she's killed "thousands" of pets at the PeTA facility. PeTA & Grey2K USA... Bosom Buddies

On 14 Jun 2012, the Huffington Post Canada published a piece by Douglas Anthony Cooper titled, PETA: Fighting for Its Right to Kill.  As you may or may not know, according to reports submitted to the State of Virginia, PeTA kills about 97% of the animals that it takes in as an "ethical shelter", what PeTA prefers to call, euphemistically, "A Shelter of Last Resort." In reality, PeTA's headquarters is according to government records filed by Newkirk and Nachminovitch -- an astonishingly efficient killing facility.

Back in 1998, during the days of her very visible PeTA activities, Dorchak protested at the New England Aquarium, because the Aquarium had fish on the menu for its restaurant. As a card carrying member of PeTA, Dorchak & her husband, Carey Thiel, firmly believe in the PeTA mission statement, which is
"Animals are not ours to eat, wear, experiment on, or use for entertainment."
This statement includes all animals...  from  slugs & mollusks to all mammals, excluding human beings as PeTA has no problem defending and endorsing violence. To quote Bruce Friedrich, a former PeTA Vice President, from a speech at the 2001 Animal Rights Conference,
"...of course we're going to be, as a movement, blowing things up and smashing windows... I think it's a great way to bring about animal liberation... I think it would be a great thing if, you know, all these fast food outlets and these slaughterhouses and these laboratories and the banks that fund them exploded tomorrow."

So, you're probably asking by now, what does PeTA & Hsus have to do with Grey2K?

As shown above, Christine Dorchak and PeTA's Ingrid Newkirk are buddies. Dorchak looks up to Newkirk as her mentor. Dorchak & her husband, Carey Thiel, push the agenda of HSUS, PeTA & Stop Predatory Gambling under the guise of trying to abolish the "cruelty of Greyhound racing" on anyone who will listen, even if they have sell their souls to the devil to do so.

Even though Dorchak and Grey2K are on record as "greyhound advocates", they do nothing for the dogs.  They don't even financially support those who work directly with the dogs, as shown on their IRS 990 forms.  Dorchak has learned well from her mentor, Ingrid Newkirk, President of PeTA. We have to wonder how well has she learned...

Dorchak's mentor, Ingrid Newkirk, stated at a press conference following the 2005 arrest of two employees, Hinkle & Cook, in North Carolina"PETA believes euthanasia is the kindest gift to a dog or cat..."  Newkirk has personally stated that she's killed "thousands" of pets at the PeTA facility.2

Those words are echoed in the words voiced by a President of a greyhound "rescue" that has been  promoted by GREY2K USA. I’m taking interest in this particular “promotion” because the group is lead by an individual, who advocated killing American greyhounds rather than letting them continue to live  by racing in Juarez or any other foreign country. By the way, don't you just love the hypocrisy spouted?  When they, the AR's, advocate euthanasia, it is a “GIFT”, but if anyone euthanizes an animal, it is labeled as "killing"?
"Keep American greyhounds in America! If you cannot find homes in the States, then give them a gift, even if that gift is euthanasia because that is better than sending them to the harsh reality of Juarez or any other foreign country." 1
So, which individual, which leader of which group wanted to kill greyhounds?  None other than David Wolf, President of The National Greyhound Adoption Program (NGAP).  The same David Wolf who houses greyhounds in NGA style crates at his adoption facility. The same David Wolf who stated if greyhound racing in Florida shut down that he would take something like 8,000 displaced greyhounds. Now we all know what he intends for those dogs, should it ever come to pass.  Could it possibly be "The Gift"?

And with whom does Christine Dorchak, President of Grey2K USA, hang out with?  Ingrid Newkirk of PeTA and David Wolf of NGAP. One has to wonder how much of their killing instinct has rubbed off on her.

We don't know if, during her PeTA days, Christine Dorchak killed adoptable pets the way Newkirk has.  However, it is known that when racing in New England shut down, Grey2K walked away. Grey2K had no plan on how to assimilate the hundreds of greyhounds that were retired when the New England tracks, such as those in Massachusetts, closed. Their usual comment was "the local adoption groups will take care of that"....

Ask yourself, if they were truly serious about caring about the dogs, would they not also include an avenue to assist the dogs and the adoption groups handling those dogs, when the tracks closed down? Would they not include in their legislation money for spays/neuters, dental, and other medical work, perhaps? No, instead, they patted themselves on the back and gave themselves high-fives about how they did "good" by closing down tracks and abandoned the greyhounds.  They just walked away...

Financial records show that for many years, HSUS and other AR organizations, have been the major money and power fueling Grey2K. In fact, while Grey2K is the rhetorical face of anti-racing advocacy, its benefactors pull strings behind the scenes. During 2009 (as in all years), virtually all of Grey2K’s $347,000 revenue went directly or indirectly into anti-racing lobby efforts, with $89,000 lining the personal pockets of Dorchak and Theil in salary and benefits. The bottom line remains steady: Greyhounds themselves get lost in all but the rhetoric as these political entities posture, looking pretty.

Knowing HSUS is a driving force behind Grey2K, let us not forget what the past HSUS President John Hoyt said in an interview with Turnout Magazine,
"I don’t think the humane movement would be quick to condemn the humane destruction of these greyhounds … we would rather see them humanely destroyed than to see someone attempt to perpetuate them on a farm for retired greyhounds for years and years to come."
Another 'animal advocate' wanting to destroy the dogs.

How many times can these people LIE about wanting to help the dogs?  How many times can they LIE about "saving" greyhounds, when it is apparent by their words that they COULD NOT CARE LESS about the dogs other than  using them, or (in their words) EXPLOITING them to achieve their end goal - the destruction of the dogs!

That end goal is shown time & time again in their words above that call for the dogs to be KILLED.

We all have one incredible thing in common – the ability to choose. The tragedy that inflicts many confrontations, when it comes to greyhound welfare, is that we all have made choices that may not be the same as what others have chosen. No one, especially the greyhounds, wins when lies and misinformation are tactics used to defeat those of different choices!

Grey2K Violates Copyright Law

GREY2K USA Legal Counsel and President willfully violate Copyright law?

We've spoken about this issue in the past, but in the context of Grey2K violating trademark law by their willfully working to divert traffic away from legitimate websites, such as that owned by the National Greyhound Association (NGAGreyhounds.COM) to their scam of a site, Grey2K USA, by way of the domain name, NGAGreyhounds.ORG (http://www.ngagreyhounds.org).  Make no mistake, Grey2K is nothing but a lobbying group concerned with making money, with which they line their pockets, and the destruction of the National Greyhound Association and other gambling institutions.

The rules for understanding whether a legal conflict exists comes from trademark law. Here are the basics you need to understand:
  • Names that identify the source of products or services in the marketplace are trademarks.
  • Trademarks that are clever, memorable or suggestive are protected under federal and state law.
  • Trademarks that are descriptive and have achieved distinction through sales and advertising can be protected under federal and state law.
  • One trademark legally conflicts with another when the use of both trademarks is likely to confuse customers about the products or services, or their source.
  • In case of a legal conflict with a later user, the first commercial user of a trademark owns it.
  • If a legal conflict is found to exist, the later user will probably have to stop using the mark and may even have to pay the trademark owner damages.
However, this post is about COPYRIGHT INFRINGEMENT.

Citing the author of the copyrighted material is not enough to allow you to publish or distribute it.  To legally publish and/or distribute the copyright protected material, one

MUST OBTAIN EXPLICIT PERMISSION FROM THE OWNER!

Copyright protection exists from the time the work is created. The copyright in the work of authorship immediately becomes the property of the author who created the work. Only the author or those deriving their rights through the author can rightfully claim copyright.

So, with that....

On Friday, June 29, GREY2K USA posted on their FaceBook page a picture of a dog, Frenchie - a dog which is in a foster home for the group, Greythounds of Eastern Michigan (GEM). On Friday, GEM informed Grey2K USA on its FaceBook page and also by private messages that the picture is copyright protected. The GEM President, Beth Barnhart, requested that GREY2K remove the photo that GREY2K does NOT have permission to use it.  As of this writing, Christine Dorchack, who masquerades as the President and Legal Counsel of GREY2K USA, has yet to remove the copyrighted material.  Four days later, it is still there and all the posts calling for its removal have been DELETED.  To make it worse, at least 18 other people are now complicit in "sharing" and "distributing" copyright protected material that they do not have permission to distribute!

As posted on GREY2K USA’s facebook page
"Thank you for acknowledging our fine group, GEM, is racing neutral. Please note further that you have used a copyrighted photo without permission. The newspaper you copied this photo from has removed the photo. I hope you will be so kind to do the same. GEM has never had to ask for outside help to find good adoptive homes for the dogs entrusted to our care. GEM does not do out of state adoptions. Neither have we ever had difficulty placing black dogs. Dogs in our care are promoted by personality rather than color. Color shopping for greyhounds is not encouraged."
And
"Christine, please understand this photo was taken by a photographer that donates their time for GEM and is copyrighted per the IPTC standard file information specifications. Please remove it immediately."
The group that GREY2K ripped off, GEM, has reported the theft of the copyrighted material. It should also be noted that a newspaper, which used the picture without permission, removed it promptly. It's sad that an individual with a law degree and who has passed the bar in MA, Dorchak, can't follow & abide by the law.

Grey2K Feels They Are Above The Law

This is not the first time this has happened. According to another greyhound owner, Grey2K used a photo of one of her dogs, which was submitted to be used in a calendar, on a story about trainers at Victoryland injecting their dogs with cocaine to enhance performance. At that time, her dog had a 'brand image' as a children's therapy dog. To protect his image and hers, she demanded that the photo be removed immediately or else. They replaced the photo with one of their own dogs. Since then, she realizes that GREY2K and its acolytes are wolves in sheep's clothing.

I've been following the thread about the ripped off photo and it seems every time someone asks GREY2K to remove the photo, they are blocked and their comments removed.  GREY2K is getting pretty dog gone ballsy if you ask me and it's time that someone either deflates or castrates them.
"Both me and GEM would appreciate anyones comments or support on this thread. It also appears on Christine Dorchek's private page but I can't post to that page. I have advised the photographer that he needs to notify FB of the copyright infringement. He's out for the weekend now and I can't get in touch with him. He is also a board member of our group."
What Is To Be Gained...

So, what IS to be gained by their illegal activity?

Money?  Of course, they will use this picture to garner more donations, with which to line their pockets and to pay for all the domain names.

What else?  Bragging rights?  Elaine Summerhill believes, if Frenchie gets adopted due to the publicity on the Grey2K site, Grey2K will use it to say, "See... We do adoptions!"  After all, this blog, racing folks, and greyhound adoption folks have been hammering Grey2K left and right on their lack of support for adoption. She believes that Frenchie will be something they can point at to counter the fact that they do NOTHING in adoptions.  Of course, IF that is the case, this blog can now point to the fact that Grey2K USA is a den of thieves!

One has to wonder what the Massachusetts Bar would think about one of their attorneys, Christine Dorchak, condoning & participating in an ILLEGAL ACTIVITY!

Other Examples

There was a comment on a forum that went, "a few years back a GREY2K award winning individual used some copyright materials without permission of an individual in Michigan, and a copyright attorney, who I believe has greyhounds, helped this MI person out."  That person was involved in the theft of copyright protected designs owned by vendors selling wares at a Greyhounds Reach the Beach event held in Dewey, DE.

Another example of copyright infringement and outright misrepresentation (lying) by one of Grey2K's acolytes is to be found in a video on YouTube. The photo in question is that of a white greyhound sitting in an armchair.  That white greyhound bitch is an English Champion show dog - Ch Treetops Ringdove, bred by Judy de Casembroot and owned by Barbara Wilton-Clark (Shalfleet Greyhounds)!  I'm not sure how those two distinguished ladies would look upon their greyhound being portrayed as an abused racing dog.  For shame!

Summary

One has to ask - is GREY2K USA founded on principles of Honesty, Integrity and Respect and do the daily activities and actions of GREY2K officers and directors reflect a value of Honesty, Integrity and Respect?

I personally think not, but don’t trust me. Look into their behavior yourself. Greyhounds deserve that all of us, regardless of which side of the fence we operate on, do so with Honesty, Integrity and Respect. Our world has no place for people and organizations that willfully disregard those principles nor do they deserve any money. Money that could be used by adoption groups that truly care about the greyhounds and do so with Honesty, Integrity and Respect.

Please share this info and continue to do so until GREY2K USA stops violating copyright law.

A Thief Among Us...

By LuLu Skinner

There is "a thief" among us in this world.

It's one who is bold & brazen enough to, without permission, steal a photo of a dog available for adoption on a group website and then post it to THEIR page without proper recognition or permission from the owner of the photograph. Just identifying the group the dog is under the care of is not enough. You MUST obtain written permission from the OWNER OF THE PHOTO.

"The thief" is anti racing and is NOT a legitimate adoption group.

The group, Greythounds of Eastern Michigan (GEM), from which the photo was stolen, is neutral and it IS a legitimate adoption group. Regardless of their stance on the racing issue, theft is theft and it's WRONG. The photo is not "the thief's" property. It IS the photographer's property, who gave permission to the group to use the photo in order to find a loving home for the dog photographed.

Now, I know some are going to say "what's the big deal over this?" Well, the big deal is simple - it's theft - prosecutable under the law of our land. It wouldn't matter if they stole a paperclip from someone else.

It's like someone coming into YOUR home & stealing a photo that belonged to you without ASKING if they could have it, and then plastering it all over the place with their name on it. How would you feel if that happened to you?

What happens when a store gets hit with a rash of shoplifting and they can't recover what they lost? Who pays for it? We do as customers, taxpayers, etc. in higher prices for the store's merchandise. If "the thief" will steal a copyrighted photo, what makes you think they will stop at just that? You can guarantee they won't and their next hit just might be your pocket unless THEY ARE CAUGHT & PUNISHED FOR THE CRIME THEY'VE COMMITTED.

Asking permission to use the picture is the polite thing AND the RIGHT thing to do. The photo wasn't posted by the adoption group to Facebook to "share". Besides,

the "thief" is a POLITICAL LOBBYING GROUP and NOT, I repeat, NOT AN ADOPTION GROUP.

The photo is most likely be used to gain donations from it for THEIR POLITICAL USE; not the ADOPTION group's use. Those donations SHOULD go to the adoption group who has the dog in their care but I'm sure the organization won't turn over any donations to the group. That's stealing once again plus deceiving the public at the same time!

The organization has been asked MANY times by multiple people within the adoption group to remove it. The organization has ignored the multiple requests and even went as far as blocking them and deleting their comments asking for them to remove it. That's a blatant act of "we're not going to remove it" if I ever saw one.

If you condone stealing, as in copyright infringement by NOT obtaining written permission from the owner to use their photo, then you are no friend of mine. I do not want to be friends with anyone who feels copy right infringement is OK. I, as an artist, will NOT tolerate stealing period - especially copyrighted information, photos, and the like. I'm off my soapbox now. Enuf said.

Yadda... Yadda... Yadda...

I was never a great fan of the TV show, Seinfeld. However, that is where I first heard the phrase, "yadda yadda yadda". It seems so appropriate in describing the continuing diatribes by the anti-racing, animal rights, anti-gambling faction. Why? Because they pick at minutiae, small & trifling matters, giving them import well beyond what is deserved.

Rachel Hogue, a photographer who also works in greyhound adoptions, posted a photography article on the Huffington Post. The article was about how to take pictures of fast moving objects and the objects she chose to photograph were racing greyhounds. That's all it took!

The "Anti's" got on there and took an article about photography and started attacking Rachel and any others, primarily folks from the greyhound adoption community, who took the time to try and set the record straight. And, when those jibes were countered, they roll out the meager list of those people who have been banned from greyhound racing for violations. That short list includes some vile bastards, not the least of whom is the convicted animal abuser, Ronnie Williams.  (By the way, the Anti's always neglect to mention that Williams was turned in by folks in racing.)  The Anti's do NOT discuss ideas for improvement or positive events; they ONLY discuss people who were banned from racing & convicted of crimes - Yadda Yadda Yadda.

So, what are the Anti's and their minions yammerin' about?  Same ol', same ol'....  "crating is cruel", "crated for 20-22 hours a day", "steroids", "killing puppies" and a wide variety of other untruths - Yadda Yadda Yadda. They also equate animal rights as being the same as animal welfare - Yadda Yadda Yadda. They are getting desperate.

I have to admit, they've now rolled out a new "truth", which is anything but. The AR's are now stating that greyhounds & greyhound racing are the cause of the dreaded cancer - Osteosarcoma (OSA). They are stating that greyhounds have the highest incidence of this disease out of all dog breeds.  They even say that Dr. Couto states that greyhounds have the highest incidence of the disease out of all the dog breeds.  When, in fact, Dr. Couto cited an unscientific survey conducted on the email list, Greyhound-L, which indicated that approximately 22% of greyhounds were afflicted with bone cancer.   The overview of that survey even states that it is NOT SCIENTIFIC by any means.

According to several reputable veterinary sources, OSA is the most common bone tumor found in large & giant breeds of dogs and according to the Animal Cancer Trust, "Irish Wolfhounds, Great Danes, Rottweilers, and German Shepherd dogs seem to be at particular risk."

I find it despicable that AR's are using a terrible disease - a disease found in all large & giant breeds of dogs including showbred (AKC) greyhounds - as a tool towards ending a sport that is the sole existence for the greatest portion of the bloodlines of the greyhound breed, but it is so typical of the Anti's.

They create issues where there are none - Yadda Yadda Yadda!

Recent studies have implicated viruses as a trigger for the disease. Other studies seem to implicate a lack of oxygen in specific cells.  And yet, another study, seems to implicate genetic predispositions to it.  At this time, there are many theories being investigated as to what causes OSA but a definitive cause at this time is unknown.

Christine Dorchak's Hypocrisy

Christine Dorchak, President & General Counsel of Grey2K USA (Grey2K), has a history of protesting and has been a card carrying member of PeTA, an organization with a very bloody history.

Christine Dorchak, PeTA Supporter - PeTA Kills Pets
Christine Dorchak a PeTA Protester
Back in 1998, as a member / supporter of PeTA, she was protesting the New England Aquarium having fish on its cafe menu. The menu at that time had 37 selections, 10 of which were either fish, crab or shrimp including tuna salad, fish sticks, and a fish sandwich. Their banquet menu had entrees with sole, salmon, crab, shrimp, and lobster sauce.  There were vegetarian (vegan) alternatives on the day menu: veggie burgers and peanut butter & jelly, and grilled cheese sandwiches.  To me, it seems that this is, yet again, zealots overreacting and making much ado about nothing.  Why? Because, PeTA wants the aquarium to adopt a vegetarian menu with fake seafood, such as tuna and salmon made from soybeans

Now then, in 1998, as the protest was going on at the Aquarium because of seafood being on their menu, PeTA at the Norfolk office in Virginia was killing animals. Since the 2nd half of 1998, a total of 27,751 pets have died at the hands of PETA workers. That number is verifiable by tallying PeTA's own numbers submitted to the Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services.

From 7/1/98 to 12/31/98, PeTA took in 1,041 animals at their "shelter".  That number included: 210 dogs, 793 cats, 35 "other" companion animals, 2 equines, and 1 poultry.  98 animals were reclaimed by their owners, leaving 943 animals available for placement. Of the 943, PeTA killed 685 of them - 73% - and that is for 6 months!

Since then, that kill percentage has risen dramatically.

1998 - 73%* (6 months)
1999 - 76%
2000 - 76%
2001 - 72%
2002 - 86%
2003 - 86%
2004 - 86%
2005 - 90%
2006 - 97%
2007 - 91%
2008 - 95%
2009 - 97%

Compare these high KILL RATES up to 97% for PeTA, supported by Christine Dorchak, against the estimated greyhound adoption rate of greater than 90% of adoptable greyhounds! Why isn't Christine and Grey2K protesting PeTA???  Seems to me that Christine is engaging in a classic case of favoritism since she & Ingrid Newkirk are best buds.

Greyhounds certainly don't need or deserve an "advocate" that advocates killing!

Dancing With The Devil....

Grey2K and Greyhound Companions of New Mexico (GCNM) - The Juarez Greyhounds
I've heard some rather disturbing news. Actually, it's more confusing than disturbing.  I've heard that a rabidly anti-racing group, one with a well deserved reputation of stabbing people in the back, is now saying they are no longer AR?  What?  As of 2 days ago, this group was still spouting Grey2K rhetoric. One of their members, Eric, is on the BOD of Grey2K and he was touting the company line as recently as several hours ago.
The only thing that has changed is that I heard they've been unable to get any greyhounds to place into homes. maybe, that is what this is all about... getting dogs.  I'd lay odds on it. One person, Susan, has stated, "they just want to get dogs and Eric certainly hasn't stopped so that's more confirmation."

Then, Rory says, "The last few weeks I've seen something I've never seen, people coming together and fighting the good fight, we've put aside our differences for the common good (the dogs) and we've waged a great fight against Grey2K. I personally believe Judy wants something and what better gift to give Grey2K than us battling each other again and leaving Grey2K alone."

He's got a definite point there and as is known, Judy is bosom buddies with Christine Dorchak.
Judy Paulsen (L) and Christine Dorchak (R)
Then again, another person who lives in New Mexico says, "Judy only wants what's good for Judy" and a New Mexico greyhound breeder chimes in, "...I will tell what that backstabbing bitch did to us!!!!  As one of the only farms here in New Mexico, we gave some dogs to Judy for adoption. We gave her bags of food to help, out of gratitude... What did we get in return? Judy went on the local news, with our dogs, stateing that they were "rescued from certain destruction and a fate worse than death".  That breeder goes on to state they would never have known except for their kind neighbors, one of whom recorded it.

I'm sorry, but a leopard doesn't change its spots overnight, let alone after nearly 18 years of AR activities. Actions speak louder than words and I've not seen any actions to support their statements that they are "reformed" and have "seen the light".  Sorry Charlie....

You know, if you dance with the devil, you may wind up in hell.  I suspect them not getting dogs is their hell.

Karma's a bitch... it always comes back to bite one in the a$$.

Grey2K and the VW Rabbit

Grey2K USA (Grey2K) vs. Volkswagen Rabbit Commercial
Well, Grey2K and the Carey Nation will probably be throwing another hissy fit, another tantrum over a new commercial by Volkswagen featuring greyhounds.  They will be whining about the greyhounds running and racing each other on a city street...  They will be calling for a boycott of Volkswagen.  I wonder how many people will be returning their VW's?

It's a great commercial!

I bet they won't say a word, however, about Christine Dorchak dropping Zoe's leash on a city street to protest Skechers... to hand out those all important flyers that ask for more money... An action that could have lead to Zoe running down a busy street in Boston with, perhaps, not as good an ending.

If Grey2K cares so much, why don't they actually help the greyhounds and the REAL greyhound advocates by donating some of those hundreds of thousands of dollars that they take in from the unsuspecting public who believe that Grey2K is an adoption group?  You know, you won't find that disclaimer on their website without a lot of digging.  Instead, those dollars go into the pockets of the husband & wife team of Carey Theil and Christine Dorchak.  It's a great scam....  Plead the 'plight of the greyhounds' and line your pockets with about 23% of the take, uhm...  donations, right off the top.

To quote Yakov Smirnov....  "What a country!"

To quote me, "What hypocrisy!"

Informed Comments From the Trenches.... # 1

Grey2K USA (Grey2K) 990 Form, Greyhound advocacy, Retired Greyhounds & Greyhound Racing
Comment 1
I have spent many years in the trenches, getting retired greyhounds into loving forever homes. I have transported dogs, fostered dogs, done pre-adoption home visits, and have seen what goes on behind the scenes at the track. I have written letters and donated my hard-earned money to organizations that do TRUE greyhound rescue in SPAIN, where the dogs, called Galgos, are indeed horribly abused and neglected.  So any response I give is NOT a knee-jerk reaction. It's based on first-hand experience.

Clifton Gray and charge
I used to be very anti-racing, but after seeing first-hand, I no longer feel that way. The racing personnel I have met have been nothing but respectful and loving toward the dogs. Most of them would cut their arms off with a rusty saw before they'd let their charges come to any harm. True, it was not always this way, but it has changed and it continues to change due to the efforts of those of us who want to see conditions continue to improve. I take issue with Grey2K for the following reasons:
  1. Grey2K perpetuates outdated information from a time when tracks were not well-regulated.
  2. Grey2K, for shock value, has used pictures of greyhound abuse and neglect that originated outside the United States.
  3. Grey2K, for shock value, tries to equate greyhound kennel conditions as the same as those encountered by people interred in German concentration camps during WW2.
If people want to donate to Grey2K, that's their prerogative and I don't mind, as long as they know that Grey2K is nothing more than a political lobbyist group that wants nothing more than to get racing banned.  People need to know that:
  1. Grey2K is NOT a 501(c)3, tax exempt charity. Donations to Grey2K are NOT tax deductible.
  2. Grey2K does NOT provide any direct assistance to greyhounds.
  3. Grey2K does NOT provide any direct assistance to greyhound placement groups.
If people want to put their money to that purpose, it isn't any of my business.  It IS my business, however, to get the truth about them out there so no one thinks they are donating to something they are not.

It IS my business to do everything I can to make sure every dog is treated well while racing and that they get a good home when they retire. It frightens me to think of the consequences should legal racing  be banned. Shutting down regulated, legal racing will only drive racing and betting on the dogs underground into unregulated "bush racing", which can and does result in terrible neglect and abuse of the dogs.  It may also drive the dogs into the hands of some coyote and other varmint hunters, who may or may not give a whit as to what happens to the dogs. It may even drive the dogs into the hands of disreputable breeders who only want to make money off those who desire to purchase a greyhound puppy.

If Grey2K minions find all of this abuse, why don't they report them to the proper authorities so it can be addressed and the offenders punished?  Why doesn't Grey2K go after PROVEN dog abusers?   I have no answer, but I do believe that anyone who personally knows about ongoing abuse of any animal and that person doesn't report the abuser to the appropriate authorities is just as bad as the person doing the abuse. Especially if they allow the abuse to continue to further a political cause. In my eyes, the enabler is much worse in some aspects.

In order to run with the big dogs - first you gotta takes off the shades and quit drinkin' the spiked koolaid!! They all (Grey2K & minions) keep complaining about race owners making a profit off the dogs, but ya know - they are too!  The only difference is they prey upon people by telling all sorts of pity stories to tug at vulnerable heart strings to get into their wallets, turning over money claiming "donation" when, in fact, it's actually declared as wages or earnings thru IRS. If they were truly in this for the dogs, they wouldn't accept 1 red cent from anyone. They would do this all on their own / out of their own pockets without any type of monetary donation from anyone. Take away their "donations" and they wouldn't exist.

I want to share the wonderful journey I've had thanks to some wonderful racing peeps.

In 2005, a litter of 10 pups were being raised by Cathie & Bill Lambert in Jacksonville. The litter, out of CM Lil Baby & Jupiter Conch, was 4 girls and 6 boys. Two of the pups were sent to the stud owner. The other 8 were destined to race for B & J Racing in Jacksonville.

Peanut
I preadopted from Follow That Hound a pretty little fawn girl with a dark mask called FTH Buttercup. The rest of the litter were preadopted by the time they started racing.  Peanut raced twice, officially!  I went to Sandy Paws 2007 and brought home the best souvenir ever!  The rest of the litter raced a bit longer, but all of them were off the track before their 3rd birthday. I kept track of the two who went to the stud owner and, when they were finished racing, they were placed with FTH members. Four of the boys live together in Tennessee with four more greyhounds and a Jack Russell.  The rest of the litter live scattered from the east coast to the west coast.

Preadopting Peanut was one of the most positive experiences I've ever had. I made a lifelong friend in the person who raised her. I gained a huge, extended family of FTH adopters. I learned so many positive things about racing and have a huge respect for what they do on a daily basis.

Sadly, my little 'Nut became ill in January. On January 31, I set her free.  One of the most difficult things I had to do after that was email Cathie to tell her. I couldn't even call as I knew neither of us would be able to talk. You can't tell me that racing people don't care about their dogs!  They care deeply!  My loss is their loss; one we share.

I've been working in greyhound adoptions since 1996 and the only "broken spirits" I've seen have been in greyhounds & greyhound crosses that were misused by private owners. These dogs were NOT registered with the NGA; they were being used to run on the bush tracks (which are illegal) and also to hunt. Other dogs with broken spirits were bounces from adoptive homes who mistreated them or did not appreciate the dogs for what they are - greyhounds.

I ask those who claim the abuse, have you ever personally seen how greyhounds are raised or are you just going by the headline grabbing, sensational "reports" published by animal rights groups?  If you have not personally been to a greyhound farm or a greyhound racetrack, you are sadly misinformed.

As a greyhound owner and a person active in adoption, greyhound racing people have nothing to prove to me. I see them in action, time & time again, with my own eyes. I suggest that you investigate them on your own and decide for yourself, if you have not already done so. Many of us in adoption learned a long, long time ago that Grey2K lies.  They use photographs of abuses that occur overseas; they use old & dated reports from 20 years ago; they really use the pity factor so they get more money in donations and then line their own pockets. You need to check out the $130K+ salaries on their 990 forms filed with the IRS.  Those salaries are paid to Dorchak & Theil, a husband & wife team.  NONE OF THEIR DONATIONS go to help either the dogs or the adoption groups helping to find homes for the hounds.

One of this blog's followers put it into perspective...

"If Grey2K actually cared for the welfare of the dogs, they would not want the tracks to close. My first greyhounds was neglected and abused, and it was not because she was racing on a legal track. She was a coyote hunter, owned by a drug dealer, and left to starve under a collapsed chicken coop with her litter of pups. Two of the five pups were already dead, when she was rescued, and another died shortly thereafter. She had no food and only a shallow pan of scummy water to drink. Should the tracks close, this will be the fate of thousands of greyhounds as sighthound sports are forced to go underground where animal cruelty laws cannot be enforced. Seems to me the "gotcha day" photos that people post of their newly-adopted greyhounds, that the greyhounds look a whole lot more like the second photo than the first.  That should tell you something!"
Here is my sweet girl at the time of her rescue.
And here she is two months after.

Something to think about....  for sure....
