A Matter of Deception...

How Grey2K USA uses perception to promote their deception.
Everything is a matter of perception, how one sees things.  Views always look different from different angles, from up close or at a distance, from the right or from the left...  It all depends and, not too long ago, when I was discussing animal rights activities with a political candidate, he thanked me for reminding him that one's view depends upon that to which they are exposed.

Deception, on the other hand, employs beguilement, deceit, bluff, mystification, bad faith, and subterfuge to propagate beliefs that are not true, or not the whole truth (as in half-truths or omission). Deception can involve dissimulation, propaganda, and sleight of hand, and well as distraction, camouflage or concealment." This is how Grey2k USA plays their game.

Jean Krupa in Kennel Crate
What Grey2k USA says: "While at the racetrack, dogs are confined in small cages barely large enough for them to stand up or turn around".

Really?  Well, they say that a picture is worth a thousand words.  So, please look at the picture of Jean Krupa in her kennel crate.

Hopefully, after seeing this and other similar pictures of different dogs, you will realize that Grey2k USA uses the term "tiny cages", for maximum, negative connotation. Now then, ask yourself, WHY do they want to keep the truth from their followers?

To me, it certainly looks like they have room to "turn around". Also, please notice the carpeting in the crate. Grey2k USA likes to call these "carpet remnants".  Again, "remnants" implies discarded trash which it is not. These "remnants" are purchased and cut to size for the crates. They are not plucked out of some dumpster.

Sarah Kettlewell & Racing Fool aka "Foo Foo"

The way that I look at is if you have a 3' x 4' piece of carpet in a 3' x 4' room it becomes "wall to wall" carpeting.  The dogs' crates are 3' x 4' rooms for them.

Anyway, who cares if it's a remnant.  What is important is that the dogs have a softer surface to lay upon, a surface that protects their skin & coat.  I am wondering though, if the "remnant" would be more acceptable if it was edged & finished like a 3x4 area rug?  If so, who knew that fabric edging would make such a difference!  Especially since area rugs are remnants that have a finished edge!

Grey2K also uses photographs with their incendiary verbage to deceive the public.  Here's a for instance...

Above is a picture of a black greyhound behind bars.  It's obvious that the dog is in a crate.

One can see metal bars, the head leaning on a metal background and some kind of bedding, probably a carpet remnant, underneath the dog.  Obviously, the crate is much too small.  After all, if it wasn't too small, the dog would not be forced to rest its head on the cold, metal crate wall.

And the eyes....  The dog's eyes have such a pitiful look to them...  a pleading, haunting look...  One can feel the misery of its existence... forced to lay in a too small cage, behind metal bars, like an animal in a Victorian zoo.   Oh that poor, put upon, ABUSED greyhound!

Below, is a different picture of the same dog in the same crate....  See what I mean?  In the first picture, the subject filled the lens as it had been zoomed in on.  In the 2nd picture, the zoom feature was not applied, giving one the overall, true perspective of the crate size in comparison to the dog. Big difference, huh?

Its all about perception.  The two photos above exhibit dichotomy, for all intents and purposes, they are contradictory!  We have found that with dogs, but especially greyhounds, you can have a happy look one minute, and a forlorn one the next minute.  Grey2K USA loves to grab onto a "sad look" and then package that as how the dog is 24 hrs a day, 7 days a week.  Yet, we all know that, if you were to take another picture a minute later, you would have had a happy-smiley face, licking their nose and tail wagging.   It's sad but true, people "fall" for the sad look all the time.

Those of us who really know greyhounds call the look in the first picture, the professionally pathetic look.  Greyhounds can turn that look on and off like a light switch, especially if they think they can get what they want with it.   As Joan Belle Isle has stated, "It takes a while before WE figure out
Grey2K is very good at using peoples' perception to promote their deception!

  1. You continue to amaze me as a writer!! You truly have the words for what my heart feels and gets so frustrated about and cannot express properly. Having greyhounds in my life for the last six years has given me a great understanding for them. I can talk to them with no words, as they can to me. For this, I am forever greatful!

  2. My family... 3 generations in the racing industry. Great article and love, love, love the pics! We have hours of movies of how happy our beautiful athletes were, the track refused to put them in our commercial on tv. We were sabortazed by the greed of the Track Owners, as well as the extremist group Grey2K! Lost an entire industry without facts or proof in Massachusetts. Keep up the positive pics and never stop fighting! It"s Unconstitional what they are getting away with!

  5. I came across your blog via a FB post and am glad I did. It's a really well written post giving the opposing side of an argument, that is all too often very one-sided.

I'm UK based and the greys here are kennelled slightly differently both at kennels and the track. I've worked with greyhounds post racing and as part of my university studies (canine behaviour & training) I undertook work experience at a racing kennel...I was prepared for the worse (due to reading so many horror stories & being told how awful I would find it), however the reality was very different to what I'd been led to believe.
I blogged about my experiences and had some comments telling me I was ignorant & that I'd wasted an opportunity ?!? (What the hell?!?) At least, in my opinion, I had gone out there to find out for myself and what I witnessed didn't live up to the propaganda that is often provided.
As with any walk of life, I'm sure there are a minority that don't put welfare first and by implication, tar the majority. However, the minority are becoming fewer (I hope).
Thanks for posting and showing how a picture really can paint a 1000 words.

    1. We will happily post articles and items from the UK, if they are sent to us. Since none of the authors for this blog have any experience in the UK or with the situation in Europe, in general, we won't write about it. However, should something be sent to us...

If you wish to submit something to the Grey2K Lies blog for publication, please submit it to Grey2K.Lies@gmail.com.

  6. It's just a evil plan to extract money from gullible people who can be sold a bill of goods. The day will come when it all comes crashing down on Grey2k. You can't be this corrupt and not take a fall sooner or later.

  7. This is posted solely for others to see the hatred that the AR's spew towards honest, hard-working people. The link in their post leads to HSUS & Grey2K propaganda, some of which has been addressed in this blog.

Please notice that since they cannot argue a point logically, they revert to name calling, i.e., "bastards", "shitheads", "nazi", etc.

They also have poor command of the English language as is shown by "sensoring" vs the correct, censoring. Anyone with any education would know that "SENSOR" is something that measures a value such as temperature, whereas, "CENSOR" is what the Grey2K group does when people disagree with their POV - they delete messages. Yes, as you can see... we "censor" people on this blog.

  10. We currently have three ex-racers in our home. One closet has a dog bed bed in it. All the dogs like to use this space from time to time. it's about the same size as the crate in the bottom picture. One of our dogs probably was abused. She is the only suspect abuse case out of the hundreds of greys I've personally seen. Most are friendly or at worst unafraid of people. These are valuable animals. No industry is perfect. The hounds I've seen are in better shape than many house pets.

  11. I only do ex-racing greyhound adoption, so understand that is all I do. Name calling tells me that you do not critically think about this problem; that you do not know or want to understand all sides of the issue. Grey2k pays themselves high salaries and give nothing to the greyhounds or to the groups trying to find forever homes for these wonderful dogs.

I almost drank the Grey2k koolaid until I actually met several people in the greyhound racing community. Don't be afraid to see all sides of an issue. Be a critical thinker, not a mindless follower. Do your research and make sure your resources are credible (not Grey2k). There are legitimate ex-racing greyhound groups who actually care for ex-racing greyhounds. Please give you support to them, not to those who only pay themselves. Ethics matter.

  12. I recently aquired a racing greyhound. I can't wait to meet her and put a tempurpedic bed in the crate. Nothing but best for my girl ❤ The kennel owner and trainer staff where she lives are wonderful. I wouldn't want to have her anywhere else. I hope she has a very successful career with them.
